Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A fire broke out at a restaurant in Kolkata’s Chinar Park area on Thursday morning, triggering panic as thick black smoke spread through the locality. The incident occurred around 8 AM, when local residents noticed smoke emerging from the restaurant premises. Within minutes, the smoke intensified, disrupting nearby movement and drawing attention from passersby. Eyewitnesses said the smoke quickly engulfed the area, creating confusion and fear among local residents and shopkeepers.
Upon receiving the alert, one fire engine from the fire department reached the spot and brought the blaze under control before it could spread further. According to fire officials, the fire was doused swiftly, and there were no reports of injury or loss of life. Baguiati police also reached the location and secured the premises. Officials stated that an investigation has been initiated to determine the source of the fire. The exact cause remains unknown at this time.
Initial assessments suggest that most of the restaurant’s equipment and interiors were gutted in the fire. A complete damage report is yet to be prepared. Fire and police officials confirmed that the incident is under official review, and the site will remain under observation until the investigation is completed. This fire incident occurred just two days after a separate blaze at a hotel in Mechhua Bazaar, where 15 people died and 12 were injured. Authorities are currently focusing on incident-wise probes without linking the two cases.
